Questions & Answers

You probably have questions. We definitely have answers.

How does ordering work?

We operate on a presale model. Each winter, we open our online shop for a limited time. You place your order and pay during the presale window, and we ship your tubers in the spring (usually early April) once conditions are right. Quantities are limited — when a variety sells out, it’s gone for the season. Join our email list for early access.

When do tubers ship?

Tubers ship in April, weather permitting. We monitor soil temperatures and ship when conditions are right for planting in your region. You’ll receive a shipping confirmation with tracking.

What are your shipping rates?

We offer $14 flat-rate shipping on all orders within the contiguous US. Orders over $150 ship free. We ship via USPS Priority Mail. Local pickup in Maine is also available — select that option at checkout.

What if a variety is sold out?

We can’t take backorders or substitutions for sold-out varieties. Our stock is limited to what we grow each season. The best way to get the varieties you want is to order early. Sign up for our email list to be notified the moment our shop opens.

How should I store tubers before planting?

Store tubers in a cool, dark place (40–50°F) until ready to plant. A basement, garage, or unheated room works well. Keep them in their packing material — don’t let them dry out completely, but don’t soak them either. Plant when soil has warmed and frost danger has passed (late May in Maine).

When should I plant my tubers?

In Maine (Zone 5), plant after your last frost date — typically mid- to late May. Wait until soil temperature is consistently above 60°F. Planting too early in cold, wet soil can cause rot. You can start tubers indoors in pots 4–6 weeks before your last frost date for a head start.

Do you ship to Canada or internationally?

Currently, we only ship within the contiguous United States. International shipping involves agricultural inspections we’re not set up to handle yet. We hope to offer Canadian shipping in the future.

What’s your return and refund policy?

Due to the perishable nature of dahlia tubers, we cannot accept returns. However, we stand behind our quality. If your tuber arrives damaged, shows disease, or fails to sprout under proper conditions, contact us with photos within 14 days of delivery and we’ll work with you on a replacement or refund.

How do I know which varieties to choose?

Each listing includes bloom type, size, and color. If you’re new to dahlias, we recommend choosing the ones you are shocked by the beauty of. For us, the best garden is one full of blooms that take your breath away on a September morning.

Do you sell cut flowers or bouquets?

We focus on tuber sales rather than cut flowers. Our tubers let you grow stunning dahlias season after season — one tuber can multiply into several each year. For cut flower tips, check out our Growing Guide.

Can I visit the farm?

We’re a small family farm without regular public hours. Local customers can arrange pickup during shipping season. If you’d like to visit, reach out through our contact form — especially during peak bloom in August and September.

What makes your tubers different from big-box store dahlias?

We grow all our own tubers on our Maine farm. Unlike mass-produced tubers, ours are freshly divided each season, inspected individually, and stored in optimal conditions. We grow named varieties with known characteristics — you know exactly what you’re getting.
